The Strathaven Memory Club usually meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, in the large hall of Trinity Parish Church, Lethame Road, Strathaven from 1.30pm – 3.15pm.
On 4th April, 4 of our church members who volunteer in the Memory Club attended the Provost’s Community Award ceremony in the Banqueting Suite in the Council Offices in Hamilton. They were delighted to be invited  as winners of an award for outstanding community service and were surprised and humbled to be nominated by Provost, Margaret Cooper, and to have been a successful nomination.
Around 30 individuals/groups from all over South Lanarkshire attended and represented all age groups, from an 8 year old upwards, all doing a range  of voluntary work in their local areas and each being nominated by a local councillor.
It is amazing how many groups beaver away doing amazing things for the benefit of their communities!
All were awarded with a certificate and a lovely glass paperweight and then everyone enjoyed a very enjoyable afternoon tea.

The May meetings of the Memory Club are on Wednesday 14th May when those of us who made clay models at our last meeting will be able to paint and varnish them, ready to take home.  We will also have some activities and games.  The clay modelling went down well with most of our members making something and enjoying the process.  The next meeting is on the 28th May when Hamebrew return to entertain us. Look forward to seeing you there.

Both meetings are at the usual time of 1.30pm till 3.15pm in the large hall.

If you have any queries please contact Lynda Horn on 07778579504.

‘Here are a few pictures of clay models which some of our members created at our previous 2 meetings. The first session was spent modelling the clay and once dry they were painted and glazed which really brought them to life! ‘

Heart for Art Project

On Wednesday 7th May we had a formal launch of the Project here in Strathaven. We have 11 participants who all are very talented even though some have little experience of painting and they are thoroughly enjoying their experiences. At the launch we have invited family members of the participants to join us and some invited guests; Right Reverend Dr Shaw Paterson, The Lord Lieutenant, Moderator of the Presbytery and the Clerk to the Presbytery, our Interim Moderator Rev Norman McKee, the Assistant Minister Rev Eleanor Hamilton and Ruby Davidson, our session clerk. Alan Logan the Director of Crossreach Older People’s Service was also  there. We had a small exhibition of some of the paintings produced by our members and refreshments of tea, coffee, sandwiches and home baking  to mark the occasion.

The next meeting is on is on Wednesday 21st May from 1.00pm till 3.00pm.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Heart for Art
The meetings also provide some respite for carers as well as support.

MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Both groups could benefit from a few extra volunteers especially people willing to collect a member who is unable to come or be brought by a carer. Even if you are only able to come to one of the groups and only regularly to  one meeting it would still be a help. Please contact Lynda Horn for more information.

New members are always welcome.

Some pictures of the activity which those attending the memory club enjoyed. The plan is for the carers to go to the small hall for tea and chat. Heart for Art will be held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month.

Below are pictures from the formal launch of the club.
